EVA DHW Heat Pump Cylinder

The EVA DHW Heat Pump Cylinder efficiently provides all the domestic hot water (DHW) requirement for a typical dwelling.

Sleak in its design the EVA can fit seamlessly into a standard sized kitchen unit if required, potentially freeing up additional storage room in the airing cupboard. The supply air is fed to the heat pump cylinder via insulated ducting. The EVA range comes in various volumes to suit any requirement. (160L, 200L & 260L Standard)(140L & 190L SLIM).

Due to the high efficiencies, the cylinder reduces the dwelling emissions in SAP/DEAP making it possible to achieve compliance using electric space heating.

The Eva complies with the new Part L of the building regulations. The carbon emissions factor for electricity has been reduced by 74% in comparison to previous levels. It now stands at 0.136kgCO2/kWh. This is the single biggest driver for heat pumps in new build dwellings. As can be seen in the carousel above, the future homes standards due to take effect in 2025 requires a new dwelling to have 75% less carbon emissions than that the notional dwelling. The Eva can play an importantg part in achieving this. A decentralised solution like the Modulair has no requirement for a heat distribution network running throughout the development. This, in addition to the capital benefit, has a significantly positive impact on the overheating risk analysis of the building as can be determined by following the CIBSE TM59 methodology.

The Eva is a suitable technology to achieve compliance with NZEB in new build apartment developments. The system will achieve these regulations with the addition of photovolvaic panels (PV) which is a key requirement for EU Taxonomy legislation, a European wide “Green” classification of buildings. This is critically important for companies to avail of low interest rate “Green” funding or additionally, to purchase, forward purchase or forward fund developments.

Separately to this the Eva has a significant impact on the buildings performance in the commonly used Home Performance Index (HPI). A decentralised solution like the Eva has no requirement for a heat distribution network running throughout the development. Unit Location Considerations

Typically the EVA will be located in a store room or within a standard utility or kitchen unit. All connections are taken off the front side for ease of access and maintenance. Like with all DHW heat pump cylinders to minimise pressure drop and increase efficiencies the unit should minimise ducting runs when feasible. Maintenance must be considered so all servicible G3 components are easily accessed.

A good ducting design should look to minimise system pressure drops. One way excessive pressure drops can happen is if ducting sizes are too small. We recommend using 220x90mm on main runs.

Another way excessive pressure drops can happen is if the external vents are not adequately sized.

These must be a double airbrick or a vent of equal free area.

Heat Emitter Design

The EVA DHW Heat Pump Cylinder works seamlessly with either radiators or underfloor heating. As with all low temperature heat pumps there are a number of design parameters that differ with high temperature conventional systems.

Radiators

Following an accurate heat loss calculation suitably sized steel, aluminium or fan coil radiators should be selected on the maximum design parameters of 45/40 flow & return. TRV’s should not be fitted on the radiators and the minimum pipe work feeding the radiators should be 15mm or greater. The system should be designed to aid the balancing, such as reverse return circuits. Assuming the dwelling is less than 100m2 (IE) or 150m2 (UK) one heating zone and corresponding thermostat should be fitted. For dwellings greater than 100m2 (IE) the bedroom areas should be zoned together. Modul-AIR thermostats must be used to control each zone.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating must always be fitted in a screed or cement based system. Pipe centres should be no greater than 150mm if using 16mm pipe or 100mm centres if using 12mm pipe. As with radiators control if the dwelling is less than 100m2 (IE) or 150m2 (UK) one heating zone and corresponding thermostat should be fitted. For dwellings greater than 100m2 (IE) the bedroom areas should be zoned together. Modul-AIR thermostats must be used to control each zone.
